DNA samples collected in Asma rape-murder case matched: Sources

LAHORE: The DNA samples taken from the body of little Asma, who was brutally murdered after being sexually assaulted in Mardan, have matched with that of a suspect, ARY News reported.

Sources said the DNA samples taken from 159 suspects were sent to a forensic lab in Lahore for testing. One of those samples have matched with the ones collected from the crime scene, they added.

They, however, didn’t disclose the identity of the suspect.

Asma went missing on January 13 from Jandarpar Gujjar Garhi area of Mardan and her body was found from sugarcane fields in the same area on January 17.

According to the post-mortem report, she was subjected to sexual assault and torture before her captors strangled her to death.

The KP police have received a lot of flak over failure to nab the culprit behind the grisly incident, which came to the light following the rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab in Kasur.

Around two hundred people have been interrogated and their DNA samples were collected, but the culprits  are still at large.

While hearing a case involving the murder of a medical student in Kohat on Tuesday, the Supreme Court slammed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police for failing to nab the culprits in rape and murder cases.
