ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in Islamabad on Monday adjourned till 10:00am the hearing of cases pertaining to the 2014 sit-in owing to the absence of PTI chief Imran Khan.
As Judge Shahrukh Arjumand resumed the hearing into the cases, a lawyer representing the PTI chairman informed him that his client will reach the court till 10:00am.
The judge, therefore, put off the hearing until the arrival of Khan.
At the previous hearing, the judge had rejected a plea filed by the PTI chief seeking exemption from personal appearance in the cases related to the attack on the state buildings and then SSP Islamabad (Operations) Asmatullah Junejo during the 2014 sit-in in the federal capital.
His lawyer Advocate Shahid Naseem Gondal filed two pleas in the court seeking acquittal and exemption from personal appearance in the cases.
Judge Shahrukh Arjumand directed the defence lawyer to provide copies of the applications to the prosecution.
The lawyer requested the court to announce its decision on his client’s acquittal plea before the charges are framed against him.
The judge observed that a notice would be issued to the prosecution to submit its response to the request.
