CJP Nisar takes notice of appointment of pilots having fake degrees

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday took notice of alleged appointment of pilots holding fake qualifications.

The chief justice directed the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to submit a report within 24 hours in this regard.

He also summoned from the CIA director general details of the activities of private planes and jets on the Pakistan’s airports during the last fifteen days.

The DG has been asked to submit the report on January 27 at the apex court’s Karachi registry.

Earlier, CJP Nisar had taken suo motu notice of a scandal involving issuance of fake degrees by Karachi-based IT company Axact.

The chief justice had summoned from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general a comprehensive report within ten days in this regard.

He remarked that nobody found involved in bringing disgrace on the country would go unpunished.

The fake degrees scandal had put the country to shame in the global arena, CJP Nisar observed.

He said if the news about the scandal was true, then steps should be taken to deal with it.

If it was a propaganda aimed to tarnish the image of Pakistan, the government should take necessary steps to defend the country, he added.

The apex court took cognizance of the fake degree scandal days after BBC Radio 4 revealed that thousands of UK citizens bought fake degrees from “diploma mill” in Pakistan.

More than 3,000 fake Axact qualifications were sold to UK-based buyers in 2013 and 2014, including master’s degrees, doctorates and PhDs, it said.
