
ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Peoples Party chiarman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday said that former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was not concerned about the public, and was running a campaign just to safeguard himself.
The PPP chairman, addressing media after attending a Holi ceremony, hoped that the next general elections are held on time, and once again reaffirmed that their party will win the elections with a heavy majority and will form the next federal government.
He said that incumbent PML-N government was not concerned about public issues, and was more concerned about the ouster of Nawaz Sharif, and was running a campaign centred solely around him and this will be their slogan for the next elections.
“They have not manifesto. Mian sahab (Nawaz) will be concerns about why he was ousted, while Imran will be showcase planting a few tree and concerns about his misguided Taliban brothers,” he said adding that both parties were not concerned about welfare of the people.
He said it was not the responsibility of the government to hold public gatherings, while the people were more worried about civic issues, employment, health and education rather than why Nawaz Sharif was ousted.
When asked about the upcoming Senate elections and the allegations of horse-trading, Bilawal said that they cannot compete with Nawaz Sharif whom he termed as the ‘master of horse trading’ and said PPP will attempt to perform well in the Senate elections.
Bilawal said that Nawaz Sharif was attempting to drag the entire system down with him, and was a threat to democracy and the geo-strategic position, just to get himself out and they will not allow him.
He questioned what measures Nawaz Sharif took to strengthen the parliamentary system despite being the only person to be prime minister three times, and having just complete four years as premier and his party is on course to complete the tenure.
He said that Nawaz only visited the National Assembly four times and Senate three times, and was not interested in strengthening either parliament or judiciary but rather concern to safeguard himself.
Bilawal said that PPP wanted judicial reforms but it was unlikely at the drag end of the government’s tenure, and was difficult to bring all stakeholders including civil society and political parties on board in three months.
He further said the PPP will unveil its manifesto soon, and has inaugurated five new hospitals in the last nine months, while Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan had no real issues or manifesto for the next elections.
He added said that PML-N cannot pass people-specific laws as it will tarnish the image of the esteemed parliament, and judicial reforms cannot be passed within just three months. He was the government was more concerned about privatization of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) despite passage of almost five years.
He spoke about the rights of the minorities and said that all Pakistanis, Muslims and non-mu slims alike, should be treated equally under one law. He said that the nation should care about it minorities, and then only could it raise their voice for rights of minorities in other countries such as the treatment and persecution of Muslims in India, Myanmar and other countries.
He said that holding of the Pakistan Super League final in Karachi will be a victory for the nation as they always desired to hold such events, and will give the message that Karachi is a safe place.
